Kaitlin I think that UNICEF does do some great things and it does bring to people’s attention that children with disabilities do have the right to live a fulfilled life while being included in everything with equality, but I also think that it does seem like it will make people feel pity for children with disabilities. I do not think that children with disabilities should be pointed out like this. They are normal children just like every other child. They may not be able to do certain things, but they should not be pointed out by society and have people feel bad for them. These advocacy groups want the children with disabilities to feel included and “normal” but when these children are being pointed out for having disabilities that will not make them feel normal. My feelings about this topic are mixed. I do feel that these groups are nice and can help children with disabilities feel more included and it can help them do more things that they would like to do, but at the same time children that do not have disabilities do not get certain groups out there for them. I feel that this group should still stand, but not only point out children with disabilities. Maybe this group can just be for all children and not only children with disabilities and there can be some people to just help the children with disabilities a little more if they need the extra help.I do not think that these groups are designed to tug at our hearts and make us feel pity for these children. I think that it is just a natural feeling to feel some sort of pity for these kids. We all know that these children can struggle in living a life while not being able to be included in everything that they would like to do. I feel that there should just be less rules against children with disabilities in telling them what they can and cannot do. Children with disabilities should have the right to get an education and make friends at school no matter what the case is. They should have the same right that everyone else has. I do not think that this type of advocacy should be stopped, but I do think that UNICEF should not say statements that will make other people feel bad for children with disabilities. That is unacceptable to me. Like I said, these children should not be pointed out for their disabilities, especially since the whole point of these groups is for children to feel more included and be included in things that other children do.
