It was taken at Ellis Island in 1905 by Lewis Hine. The photo is a family of 4, mother and her three children coming to New York. In the photo you can see the family only has two bags, they look tired and have dirt on their faces. I believe Hine was trying to show what people were willing to go through to come to the free world of America. The image was intended to show people that New York City was accepting all types of lives. I believe Hine chose to take a photo in the baggage claim area to show people that Ellis Island was accepting a lot of immigrants from all over the world. New York City was expanding with businesses and people. New York City represent a new beginning.   Arts & Humanities English ENG 111
